This policy describes the information we process to support VodaMedia and other products and features offered by Vodacom SA(LTD).

This privacy supplement describes the type of personal information we process to support VodaMedia and other related products and features offered by Vodacom SA (Pty) Ltd. This privacy supplement is not intended to replace Vodacom’s privacy policy but is designed to provide additional contextual information that we process relating to VodaMedia. What is VodaMedia

VodaMedia an online advertising media company which is owned and managed by Vodacom SA (Pty) (Ltd) (“Vodacom”).

To provide the VodaMedia Products, we must process information about you. The types of information we collect depend on how you use our Products. You can learn how to access and delete information we collect by contacting us via email on VodaMedia@vodacom.co.za

Things you and others do and provide.

Information and content, you provide. We collect the content about your business, communications, and other information you provide when you use our Products, including when you sign up for an account, create or advertise content. This can include information in or about the content you provide (like metadata), such as the location of a photo or the date a file was created. It can also include what you see through features we provide. Our systems automatically process content and communications you and others provide to analyse context and what is in them for the purposes described below.

Networks and connections.

We collect information about the campaign performance, creative, and ad account and how you interact with them across our Products, such as your use of the VodaMedia site builder to help us improve the service. 

Your usage. We collect information about how you use our Products, the features you use; the actions you take; and the time, frequency, and duration of your activities. For example, we log when you are using and have last used our Products, and what posts, videos, and other content you uploaded of our Products. We also collect information about how you use features like our SMS and packages.

Information about transactions made on our Products. If you use our Products for purchases or other financial transactions (such as when you make a purchase of a campaign), we collect information about the purchase or transaction. This includes payment information; other account and authentication information; and billing, shipping, and contact details.

Device Information

As described below, we collect information from and about the computers and phones, devices you use that integrate with our Products, and we combine this information across different devices you use. For example, we use information collected about your use of our Products on your phone to better optimise your experience on the platform or features you see when you use our Products on another device, such as your laptop or tablet, or to measure whether you took an action in response to an ad we showed you on your phone on a different device about the VodaMedia products or specials.

Information we obtain from these devices includes:

Device attributes: information such as the operating system, hardware and software versions, battery level, signal strength, available storage space, browser type, app and file names and types, and plugins.

Device operations: information about operations and behaviours performed on the device, such as whether a window is foregrounded or backgrounded, or mouse movements (which can help distinguish humans from bots).

Identifiers: unique identifiers, device IDs, and other identifiers, such as from games, apps or accounts you use, and Family Device IDs.

Device signals: Bluetooth signals, and information about nearby Wi-Fi access points, beacons, and cell towers.

Network and connections: information such as the name of your mobile operator or ISP, language, time zone, mobile phone number, IP address, connection speed and, in some cases, information about other devices that are nearby or on your network, so we can do things like help you stream a video from your phone to your desktop.

Cookie data: data from cookies stored on your device, including cookie IDs and settings. These cookies are required cookies and necessary for basic website functionality. Some examples include session cookies needed to transmit the website, authentication cookies, and security cookies.

If you have chosen to identify yourself to us, we may place on your browser a cookie that allows us to uniquely identify you when you are logged into the websites and to process your online transactions and requests.

Partners receive your data when you visit or use their services or through third parties they work with. We require each of these partners to have lawful rights to collect, use and share your data before providing any data to us.

Other information we collect and why:

Your Business Name to create your account and for invoicing purposes which is requested when you register.

Your Website URL to help you complete your campaign set up which automatically will be added into the campaign when you book a package.

We use the information we have as described above to provide and support the VodaMedia Products and related services described in the VodaMedia Terms

Here is how:

Provide, personalize, and improve our Products.

We use the information we have, to deliver our Products, including to personalize features and to make suggestions for you (such as creative messaging and targeting) on and off our Products.

Location-related information: We use location-related information-such as your business location.

Product research and development: We use the information we have, to develop, test and improve our Products, including by conducting surveys and research, and testing and troubleshooting new products and features.

Provide measurement, analytics, and other business services.

We use the information we have (including your activity off our Products, such as the websites you visit and ads you see) to help advertisers and other partners measure the effectiveness and distribution of ads and services and understand the types of people who use their services and how people interact with their websites, apps, and services.

Promote safety, integrity, and security.

We use the information we must verify accounts and activity, combat harmful conduct, detect, and prevent spam and other bad experiences, maintain the integrity of our Products, and promote safety and security on and off VodaMedia Products. For example, we use data we have to investigate suspicious activity or violations of our terms or policies, or to detect when someone needs help.

Communicate with you.

We use the information we have, to send you marketing communications, communicate with you about our Products, and let you know about our policies and terms. We also use your information to respond to you when you contact us.

Research and innovate for advertising good.

We use the information we have (including from research partners we collaborate with) to conduct and support research and innovation on topics of general welfare, technological advancement, public interest, health, and well-being.

Sharing

People and accounts you share and communicate with when you share and communicate using our Products, you choose the audience for what you share. For example, when you advertise on our channels, you select the audience for the advert, such as a group, or a customized list of people. Your network can also see actions you have taken on our Products, including engagement with ads, landing pages and sponsored content.

Public information can be seen by anyone, on or off our Products, including if they do not have an account.

Apps, websites, and third-party integrations on or using our Products.

When you choose to use third-party apps, websites, or other services that use, or are integrated with, our Products, they can receive information about your campaign. For example, the game developer or website can receive information about your campaign in a consolidated manner, but no personal information will be shared.

Devices and operating systems providing native versions for the VodaMedia products (i.e., where we have not developed our own first-party apps) will have access to all information you choose to share with them.

New owner.

If the ownership or control of all or part of our Products or their assets changes, we may transfer your information to the new owner.

Sharing with Third-Party Partners

We work with third-party partners who help us provide and improve our Products or who use Tools to grow their businesses, which makes it possible to operate our companies and provide free services to people around the world. We do not sell any of your information to anyone, and we never will. We also impose strict restrictions on how our partners can use and disclose the data we provide. Here are the types of third parties we share information with:

Partners who use our analytics services.

We provide aggregated statistics and insights that help people and businesses understand how people are engaging with adverts, listings, Pages, videos, and other content. For example, admins users receive information about the number of people or accounts who viewed, reacted to, as well as aggregate demographic and other information that helps us and them understand interactions.

Advertisers.

We provide advertisers with reports about the kinds of people seeing their ads and how their ads are performing, but we do not share information that personally identifies anyone (information such as your name or email address that by itself can be used to contact you or identifies who you are) unless you give us permission which will be applicable to lead generation campaigns. Other information we share with advertisers include general demographic and interest information to advertisers (for example, that an ad was seen by a woman between the ages of 25 and 34 who lives in Midrand and likes software engineering) to help them better understand their audience. We also confirm which VodaMedia ads led someone to make a purchase or take an action with an advertiser.

Measurement partners.

We share information about you with companies that aggregate it to provide analytics and measurement reports to our partners.

Vendors and service providers.

We provide information and content to vendors and service providers who support our business, such as by providing technical infrastructure services, analysing how our Products are used, providing customer service, facilitating payments, or conducting surveys.

Researchers and academics.

We also provide information and content to research partners and academics to conduct research that advances scholarship and innovation that support our business or mission and enhances discovery and innovation on topics of general welfare, technological advancement, public interest, health, and well-being.

Law enforcement or legal requests.

We share information with law enforcement or in response to legal requests in the circumstances outlined below.

If you are visiting our Websites from a country other than South Africa the various communications will necessarily result in the transfer of information across international boundaries.

We may also need to transfer your information to our partners and service providers in countries outside South Africa, in which case we will fully comply with applicable data protection legislation. This may happen if our servers or suppliers and service providers are based outside South Africa, or if our services are hosted in systems or servers in Vodafone Operating Companies outside South Africa including the European Economic Area (EEA) or India and/or if you use our services and products while visiting countries outside South Africa. Countries in the EEA are considered to have adequate data protection laws. Other countries outside the EEA may not have data-protection laws which are similar to those of South Africa, however, we will make sure that your information is protected and enter into appropriate agreements to achieve this.

VodaMedia share infrastructure, systems, and technology with other Companies (which include Salesforce, Facebook, Vodacom, Accenture, Google and OTM) to provide an innovative, relevant, consistent, and safe experience across all Vodacom SA (Pty) Company Products you use. We also process information about you across the Companies for these purposes, as permitted by applicable law and in accordance with their terms and policies. For example, we process information from VodaMedia products about accounts sending spam on its service so we can take appropriate action against those accounts on VodaMedia channels. We also work to understand how people use and interact with Company Products, such as understanding the number of unique users on different Company Products.

We are committed to implementing leading data security safeguards.

We have specialised security teams who constantly review and improve our measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, accidental loss, disclosure or destruction.

If we have a contract with another organisation to provide us with services or a service on our behalf to process your personal information, we will ensure that your information is protected and that they only process your information in the way we have authorised them to. These organisations will not be entitled to use your personal information for their own purposes. If necessary, our security teams will check them to make sure they meet the security requirements we have set.

Communications over the internet (such as emails) are not secure unless they have been encrypted. Your communications may go through a number of countries before being delivered – as this is the nature of the internet. We cannot accept responsibility for any unauthorised access or loss of personal information that’s beyond our control.

We’ll never ask for your secure personal or account information by unsolicited means of communication. You’re responsible for keeping your personal and account information secure and not sharing it with others.

You may choose to disclose your information in certain ways such as social plug-ins (including those offered by Google, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest) or using third-party services that allow you to post reviews or other information publicly, and a third party could use that information.

Social plug-ins and social applications are operated by the social network themselves and are subject to their own terms of use and privacy and cookies policies. You should make sure you’re familiar with these.

We are committed to processing personal information honestly, ethically, with integrity, and always consistent with applicable laws and our values. Below we set out details on how you can exercise your rights. Please note, under certain circumstances these rights may be limited if we still have lawful grounds to process your personal information.

Right to correct personal information

Having provided adequate proof of identity, you have the right to have information held about you corrected if it is not accurate. In order to request a correction, you may contact us by email at vodamedia@vodacom.co.za .

Right to access personal information

You have the right to make a request for a copy of the personal information that we hold about you. Having provided adequate proof of identity, you have the right to request to confirm, free of charge, whether or not we hold personal information about you and request from us the record or a description of the personal information about you held by us.

Right to Opt-Out

If you no longer want to receive marketing messages from us, please contact our customer services team and you’ll be ‘opted out’. Kindly contact our customer services team to make opt-out request at vodamedia@vodacom.co.za

If you choose to unsubscribe or opt out, we will hold your contact details on file marked so that we do not contact you again. This is so that we do not contact you if your details are subsequently provided to us by a third party.

Right to object to use of personal information

How to lodge a complaint

Should you believe that we have used your personal information contrary to applicable law, you undertake to first attempt to resolve any concerns with us directly. If you are not satisfied with such process, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator, once the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 is in force.

We access, preserve, and share your information with regulators, law enforcement or others:

In response to a legal request (like a court order or subpoena) if we have a good faith belief that the law requires us to do so. This may include responding to legal requests from jurisdictions outside of South Africa when we have a good-faith belief that the response is required by law in that jurisdiction, affects users in that jurisdiction, and is consistent with internationally recognized standards.

 

When we have a good-faith belief it is necessary to: detect, prevent, and address fraud, unauthorized use of the Products, violations of our terms or policies, or other harmful or illegal activity; to protect ourselves (including our rights, property, or Products), you or others, including as part of investigations or regulatory inquiries; or to prevent death or imminent bodily harm. For example, if relevant, we provide information to and receive information from third-party partners about the reliability of your account to prevent fraud, abuse, and other harmful activity on and off our Products.

Information we receive about you (including financial transaction data related to purchases made with VodaMedia) can be accessed and preserved for an extended period when it is the subject of a legal request or obligation, governmental investigation, or investigations of possible violations of our terms or policies, or otherwise to prevent harm. We also retain information from accounts disabled for terms violations for at least a year to prevent repeat abuse or other term violations.

The laws of South Africa will govern any dispute or claim arising out of or relating to your use of our service.
